THE STREAM GARDEN

(1980)

A path curves around and leads through the cedars into the Stream Garden, planted with groups of trees which intertwine with the paths. It is a garden requiring little maintenance, animated by lively, playful arrangements.

The Stream Garden features paths that cross the stream at multiple locations, which are aligned with particular trees to give, for example, the path of the crabapples (Malus hopa) and the hawthorn trail (Crataegus 'Toba'). In addition, there are clumps of mugho pine and Arctic willow crossing the stream, as well as groups of mountain ash (Sorbus americana), Japanese larch (Bestseller leptolepis), Scots pines (Pinus sylvestris) and red oaks as well as other trees and shrubs.
