THE RONDEL (POEM)

(1980)

From the Allée des Oies a path leads to a tunnel of thuyas and from there, to a vista marked by a statue representing winter (colloquially referred to as the Little Man) which points through a ring of thuyas (the centre of which is composed of a millstone transformed into a sundial) to a bust of Antonia, the mother of the Emperor Claudius, floating among perennials on the opposite shore of the lake.

The spaces within the square surrounding the ring are planted with white birch (Betula papyrifera) and include peaceful, hidden spots for relaxation. Going down towards the lake we see a statue of the Goddess of Flowers on the left at the end of the transverse axis which crosses the ring in the centre.
