THE WOODLAND GARDEN
It is from this focal point to the junction from the Perennial Allee and Shaded Flower beds that we enter the Jardin du Sous-Bois to the left of the fountain. The flower bed from the fountain towards the birch trees is an ideal place for choice plants. It faces due north and is protected from the sun most of the day. It contains several interesting plants.
Le Sous-Bois has five artificial rivulets that provide moisture to the surrounding soil before returning to the ravine and the stream. It includes a complicated network of trails and is home to more than 100 species of primroses, which find ideal conditions there. There are three particularly colourful flowering times during the season.
It is also relevant to know that in the early 1990s, a sterile hybrid, almost certainly a cross with P. alpicola, appeared in a completely new color, a pinkish brown with a dark fawn interior. After frequent divisions, it extends along a fourth stream, in this case, the denticulata/rosea stream, which also has clusters of P. alpicola var. luna which are finished by the time they begin to flower. The hybrid is registered with nomenclature authorities under the name Primula 'Raynald' after Raynald Bergeron, our head gardener, was the first to notice that the single specimen was different.
In the following garden section, paying attention to where you step while calmly admiring the beauty of the plants in your path will be important.
