THE RAVINE
(1983-1987)
The ravine has certain characteristics that make it an ideal plant microclimate. It is sheltered from the winds and covered with a thick layer of snow during winter. Thanks to the cover provided mainly by deciduous trees, it is covered with rays of sunshine in spring and shaded during summer. Also, thanks to the stream and the sprinkler system that irrigates it regularly, it is a cool and highly humid habitat. As a result, plants thrive in the ravine that are only found in the wild in the Himalayas, in captivity in Scotland or in the American Northwest.
Many plants are in the ravine, including a large Rhododendron yakusimanum plantation and countless quantities of primroses, gentians and ground covers. The idea is to create lush vegetation in this ideal habitat reminiscent of the jungle paintings of the Douanier Rousseau.
